Best Maths Books For Jee Main 2020 Preparation

JEE Mains 2020 registration for January session has been closed and for April session, it will start from 7th February 2020 and close on 7th March 2020. NTA (National Test Agency) conducts JEE Mains examinations in two sessions. The exam date for the January session is from 6-11 January 2020 and from April session it will be from 3-9 April 2020. JEE Main is a national level entrance exam for the students aspiring for engineering, architecture, and planning. Students can fill JEE Mains 2020 applications forms for both the sessions as well. The best of two is considered as the final result. It is one of the biggest and toughest entrance tests for undergraduate courses namely B. Tech, B.Arch., and B. Plan. This national level entrance test offers admission in the IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) across the country.

JEE Mains exam pattern has been changed and the major change in the pattern is that the total number of questions have been decreased to 75 from 90 questions in 2019. The question paper will also contain numerical based question for the exam. And this year onwards, the IITs organises separate paper for the candidates seeking admission for B. Plan course. JEE Mains 2020 will have three papers namely B. Tech, B. Arch, and B. Plan and they carry 300, 400, and 400 marks respectively. The duration of the exam is 3 hours for each and all the three papers have 3 sections each. For B. Tech – Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, for B. Arch – Drawing, Mathematics, and Aptitude, and for B. Plan – Mathematics, Aptitude, and Planning based questions.

JEE Mains 2020 examinations have Mathematics as a common subject in all the three papers. Mathematics comprises of 25 questions in all the exams among which 20 questions are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) carrying 1 mark each with no negative marking and 5 numerical carrying 4 marks each with one mark as negative marking. At this point of time when exams are nearby, the candidates are looking for the important topics and best book for the preparation. To crack the exam only hard work is not important but you need to work smartly for getting a good score. You need to prioritise the study to improve your score. Here we have mentioned the important topics of Mathematics with the average number of questions and weightage.

The Differential Calculus holds the maximum weightage with the 18% and 7 questions in the previous year question paper. The best book for this topic is Differential Calculus by Arihant. Take a look at the weightage of the important topics and then plan your study accordingly:

It is advisable to make a list of formulae and write down the important concepts. Here are some of the important topics where you should focus:

  • Calculus: It is the most important topic and carries the maximum weightage. You should be clear on the standard limits, differentiation formulae and standard integration results. Also, revise the theoretical part of Continuity and Differentiability as well as the properties of Definite Integration.
  • Coordinate Geometry: Remember the formulae and revise them properly as this topic also carries a great weightage in the examination. Take a look at the geometrical properties especially for straight lines and circles.
  • Algebra: Don’t neglect the properties as students usually don’t give them weightage but they are also important. For Quadratic or Theory of equations, study the symmetric sums of roots occur in an equation as well as the transformation of equations thoroughly. It is important in Complex Numbers to revise the interpretation of various formulae in the geometric form; it makes them more intuitive and easier to remember. Binomial, Permutation and Combination, and probability are all connected and should be revised together.
  • Vector and 3-D Geometry: The questions of this topic are likely to involve standard formulae.
  • Trigonometry: Split your notes into four parts – basic formulae, trigonometric equations, inverse and solution of triangles. In JEE Mains, questions are likely to be based on the more common results.
