Inverter: for powering electrical equipment in the absence of the regular power source

A power inverter as the name suggests inverts direct current into an alternate current. An inverter itself doesn’t produce any current, it is the DC power source which provides the inverter with the required current. The input and output voltage along with the frequency and the ability of power handling depends completely upon the manufacturing of inverter circuits. An inverter is available in types, namely, electronic inverter and a blend of mechanical and electronic effects and circuits.

Power inverters are most useful during a power outage for supplying the plugged in household electrical equipment with all the required power required for them to run uninterruptedly.  In recent times, there are several inverters in the market which have digital screens attached to the inverters which displays how much energy has already been consumed and also the battery usage.

There are basically two types of inverter charger namely:

  • Pure sine wave power inverter

  • Modified sine wave power inverter

A pure sine wave power inverter also known as true sine wave inverter is designed to imitate the quality of the DC power provided by the regular power grids. Electronic equipment which consumes high- energy are generally powered by pure sine wave inverter. Compared to modified sine wave inverters, pure sine wave inverters are more costly and more powerful and efficient in nature. A pure sine wave inverter ensures that the equipment will work properly. For that reason, they are widely used in domestic and commercial establishments.

An inverter requires a stable DC power source which can supply an adequate amount of current to meet the power demands of the system. Based on the design and the usages, the input voltages of the inverters varies. For example, a 24vdc power inverter is used to run the domestic home electrical system.
